Cook County Family Connection Brings Books, Safety, and Community Resources to the Adel Daylily Festival

The Adel Daylily Festival brought more than flowers to downtown Adel. For Cook County Family Connection, it was an opportunity to meet families where they were and send them home with something useful.

At their Storybook Table, Family Connection volunteers distributed storybook bags to over 100 children throughout the day. Each bag was packed with assorted books, coloring books, activity sheets, and crayons, with topics covering weather safety, drug prevention, fire safety, and health and wellness. Every bag also included a Community Resource Guide designed to help families connect with local healthcare and social services available in the area.

Family Connection also partnered with the Cook County Fire Department during the event, providing Emergency Fire Blankets and fire prevention books to support their fire safety exhibits and demonstrations. Festival visitors had the chance to learn how to quickly extinguish a fire using an emergency fire blanket and walked away with practical tips on preventing fires at home. More than 40 families received a free Emergency Fire Blanket to take with them.

For Cook County Family Connection, the festival was exactly the kind of community moment they look for: a chance to put helpful resources directly in the hands of the families who need them most.
