The Votes Are In: Meet the Winners of Our October Issue Photo Contest
When we opened submissions for our October Issue Photo Contest, we knew South Georgia had no shortage of incredible agricultural scenes to share, but the response went beyond what we expected. From farms and fields to families and the everyday moments that connect us, you captured South Georgia agriculture in so many different ways. Thank you to everyone who submitted a photo!
Our October issue celebrates Agriculture & Agribusiness: The Foundation of South Georgia, and we’re excited to share the three photos that received the most votes through Facebook + Instagram. Our first-place winner will be featured in the pages of our October issue, coming soon, while all three winning photos will be featured here on SouthGeorgiaMag.com.
🥇 First Place — Lindy Savelle, Thomas County
“I took the picture late one day on our farm, JoNina Farm, after our grandson, Beau Billings, had fallen asleep in my arms while riding on our ATV. His hand fell over on the seat into my husband’s hand. Both hands were dirty from ‘farm work.’
A grandfather’s hand — weathered, strong, and marked by years of work — holding the small hand of his grandson, already carrying a little JoNina Farm dirt of his own. Two generations, side by side. One hand represents a lifetime of hard work, lessons learned, and a farm cared for; the other represents the future and all the memories still waiting to be made.
This is what legacy looks like. Not just land, tractors, crops, or a family name — but little hands learning from the hands that came before them.”
🥈 Second Place — Megan Odom, Early County
“My name is Megan Odom, and I’m a proud Southwest Georgia farm girl who loves the simple, hardworking life that comes with farming. Our days revolve around the land, family, and the animals that make our little piece of the country home. From planting and harvesting cotton, peanuts, corn, and soybeans to raising chickens and gathering fresh eggs, there’s always something to keep us busy.
Farming isn’t always easy, but it’s a way of life we’re grateful for. It’s early mornings, long days, muddy boots, watching the weather, and seeing the fruits of your hard work, but most of all it’s appreciating the blessings found in the everyday moments of country life.”
🥉 Third Place — Maddie Frost, Lowndes County
“Agriculture has been a big part of both my personal and professional life, especially here in South Georgia. I work for the Georgia Peanut Commission as their Project Coordinator for Farm and Field Services, so I get to spend a lot of time seeing and learning more about the people and farms that make our industry what it is. I took this photo during last year’s Georgia Peanut Tour, and I love that it combines two parts of my career that I’m passionate about. Along with working in agriculture, I own my own photography business, so it’s always fun when those worlds cross over. Getting to pull out my camera and capture a little piece of the agriculture industry that I work in every day is pretty special to me.”
